The MDF in our entry way bench got wet … swelled up … and … died in hallway combat :-(

Decided to replace the MDF with tile...That went fairly well.

Then … of course … the white painted wood didn’t look all that exceptional.

Still sitting on various and sundry pieces of African Mahogany scrap … naturally, I figured I could trim it out like the deck of a ship.

Stile and rail panel on the end cap, with a mahogany ply center.
Three coats of amber shellac.
Two coats of Spar Urethane.
Two coats of paste wax.

I’ve still got to cap a piece or two that … just didn’t come out right … and caulk the gaps to ensure it’s relatively water tight, but … thar she blows :-)

Not my best work, but … right now … I’ve been grateful for the ability to do anything in my shop !
