Well the Pie Crust finally begins. I’ve got my Oneida all set up and its collecting all of my dust so now i am off to the races on this pie crust table. It has to be completed and finished by thursday so i should have the construction done by the end of this weekend.
So first today I Turned the pedestal. If you guys know T-Chisel then chances are you know Eli… well Eli let me borrow the design for his pie crust so the pedestal is his design. but well get to that a bit later. To begin with i turned the whole thing round and then turned the tenon for the legs. with that done i proceeded to head over to the router table and cut the dovetails for the feet. after that just a bit of chisel work and i had some nice dovetails.
...then after that i put the pedestal back on my lathe and turned away. i would say this probably took about 4 hours but i had to go slow because the bubinga is hard. its not hard to turn and i actually like to turn it because its not fragile and doesn’t chip but it is a very hard dense wood. But in the end i feel like i had some pretty good results. Eli sure did do a nice job designing this bad boy :)
...so thats it for now. tomorrow i will do the legs as well as dish out the top. then just a ton of scraping and sanding and this table will be finish ready!!
