This is a flame birch box with a birds-eye maple top ... The ribbon handle is a combination of cherry with Quina as the outside lamination, and was wrapped and recessed into the box sides ... Quina was also used for the corner points ... A majority of the wood is from Maine, except of course for the Quina ... The finish is natural tung oil ...

Recovering from a week, and last weekend, of hard work. Finally got out to the shop today. Mid afternoon. The job stress and my age makes for many days of recovery… ... Pared down the width of my sled from 48 to 44 inches ... more about the reason for that in later entries ... Then I put the angles on the little fence ... I never know whether to call it the front or the back fence… ... furthest from the operator ... Well, goofing around with setting the blade angle on the TS I came in
The posting that I put up earlier today seemed really popular, so I thought I put up the first dog house that I made about 3 years ago for our two dogs ... You can see how the hinges hold the top and the wind wall on the inside for the dogs to stay covered up ... I also installed a heating unit (http://www.houndheater.com) into this for those really cold nights ... Shortly after I finished this we moved 5 states across and the movers were not happy to hear that I was bring it with us… :) ...

Well the Pie Crust finally begins. I’ve got my Oneida all set up and its collecting all of my dust so now i am off to the races on this pie crust table. It has to be completed and finished by thursday so i should have the construction done by the end of this weekend ... So first today I Turned the pedestal. My husband got me my first power tool! (Well, second if you count my 12v drill). I got a Delta/Rockwell Homecraft Scroll saw. He started me off with over 30 blades… does he think I am going to go through that many until I learn how to maneuver properly?? I am looking forward to combining my pyrography with the scroll saw. Any tips I need to know about? ... Hopefully I will have pictures tomorrow ...
