Now that the design stage is complete I went out and purchased the first sheet of plywood and began construction. The first stage is the foundation ... The foundation is built to a height of 2-1/2”. Well, almost as we all know, 1/2” plywood is not really 1/2” ... As this house will total out at just under 5’ tall, the foundation will have to support some weight so I criss-crossed some support throughout the center ... Here are some of the latest pics… ... This fireplace surround is in my retreat center – http://www.RedBarnRetreats.com ... I made it using old barn boards from the original barn. All I have to do is grout the tile and install the switch ... Another project to check off the list! ... I’ve already made the basswood mantle board that I will chip carve. When it is done I’ll remove the barn boards on the face and install the one that’s carved. Planning ahead, doncha know! ...
In this time lapse video I am gluing up 4 flexible back braces for a custom wooden rocking chair. A back brace is built using 4 layers each layer being about 2.2mm thick, the top or front layer is Birdseye Maple the rest are Walnut. This chair will be Black Canadian Walnut thus the the Birdseye Maple will give a attractive and interesting contrast to the rest of the chair. We make sure to cut the fronts and backs from a single piece and keep everything in order so in the end we have a beautiful
My intention is to make this a WIP but it will be spread out over the next couple of months as I will only be working on it when my work schedule permits. I did manage to get the frame done ... 20”x 24” walnut with a birds -eye maple accent allowing 1/2” recess inside the frame for the intarsia ... I also began drawing the pattern. Because I hand draw my patterns I start off by making a scaled grid (in this case 1/2”=1”).This photo shows the grid layout on the interior shot of the car
Item 3 on my starting out series is about classified ads. These can bring you business in some communities but it is essential to allow them to run regularly not just once or twice. This can get expensive in a large city even small ads ... I found that the small weekly newspapers were less expensive and the ads were visible for an entire week instead of just one day. Naturally, the ads must be brief but you definitely want it to be interesting. If there is a product that seems popular, start
Hi everyone ... Well it’s been awhile since I’ve done a new Intarsia piece (or any scrolling for that matter) but with the warmer weather here in Va. it’s time to get back in the shop and get creative. Here are a couple of pics of my newest creation to be. It will be titled “Caught in the Headlights” and will be my first night time scene. I’ve been wanting to do this for quite awhile.I will be combining parts of these three photos to depict a rather humorous setting that will include
I finally got back to doing some woodworking yesterday ... I had finished drawing this pattern up last week and got it cut out, but it seemed that I was in several other directions the past several days and it was kind of woven in between all the other things I was doing ... It is a simple design by my own standards, and I had mixed feelings about it ... I find however that every design doesn’t have to be complex to be successful, and I think it will have a wide appeal ... After seeing it
